a free verse poem

by Matt

Soft kitties playing on the floor,

Any toy will make kitties happy.

It doesn’t have to be a toy, though;

Anything and everything holds an adventure:

They play wrestle with their brothers

And engage in a never-ending chase for their tail.

Contrary to popular belief they are affectionate.

Their fur is just as warm as their heart.

They are quite remarkable creatures;

They know when you’re sick and upset

And will lay down in your lap.

But they will still ask you for food.

Cats are smarter than we are.

Their affection is unbiased and pure,

And their innate curiosity is precious.

What profound thoughts must run through their heads.

I would love to know what they think about,

But who is going to ask them?

Matt will be a senior next year.
